Rainbows and Lightning? You Have to See It To Believe It.

You normally see rainbows just when it stops raining and the sun comes peeking out from behind the clouds.  This series of photographs, however, captures a very strange weather phenomenon – rainbows during a lighting storm. What causes rainbows and lighting to appear together?  Coincidence. This isn’t a special weather occurrence – its just about being in the right place at the right time.  Rainbows are formed when the sun reflects off droplets of water in the Earth’s atmosphere. In these photos, it just happens that lighting is streaking across the sky at the same time the rainbow appears.   The science may not be magical, but the results certainly are.

Have you ever seen a rainbow during a lightning storm?  I haven’t, but now that I know its possible, I’ll be on the lookout!
